Founded in 1935 by Charles Delaunay, the son of the famous painters Sonia and Robert, as well as Hugues Panassié, JAZZ HOT is the oldest jazz magazine in the world. Its age as well as its international character (bilingual French-English from 1935 to 1939) gives a documentary and encyclopedic genre to its contents. The history of jazz in France and all over the world runs through the 30 000 pages of the magazine.Curiosity has always been present, thanks to the exceptional open-mindedness of Charles Delaunay, who backed the magazine until 1980. He created a great enthusiasm among the successive working-teams who prevented the magazine from becoming sterile. So JAZZ HOT was the birth-place of jazz criticism in France and, without exaggerating, we can say that everything that has to do with jazz began here in this magazine. Of course Charles Delaunay, Hugues Panassié, Boris Vian are the most famous contributors, but we could name many others, french or foreign, and among them a lot of musiciens. JAZZ HOT today follows the path designed by its illustrious founders. The high quality of the editing team has found, through its new presentation, a further way to attract jazz fans. Precise, informative, clearly written, readable, nicely presented, open to all types of jazz, independent : these are the motivating features of the team. This great adventure would not have taken place without the passion of the readers who, right from the beginning, have given indispensable assistance and independent position to the running of our magazine. Some of them discovered jazz music in JAZZ HOT and knew how to transmit their love of this music to their children and friends. The pedagogical vocation of JAZZ HOT is a daily reality. Finally, this sixty-four-year long story has been animated by all those who participate in jazz music : advertisers, clubs, festivals, concert halls ; most of them can read in JAZZ HOT what they have done. Anyway, all this would be complete nonsense without jazz music, without its peculiar ability to renew itself, and to respect jazz culture, which is the heart of JAZZ HOT. Therefore it is essential, to understand and to carry on the wonderful history of jazz, to take into account that its great variety is due to so many different musicians, so many different readers, so many different producers, so many different concert halls, to JAZZ HOT and that the " good health " of jazz economy results in the possibility for all the participants in jazz music to elaborate this synergy, to respect and to promote independence : the independance of the JAZZ HOT readers (as well as for all the medias), of the musicians, the clubs, of every producers...Jazz reviews are rare, a magazine like JAZZ HOT is exceptional ; it is up to you make the most of it !
